This article explains the concept of "Jittering" in Scatter Plots
Why use Jittering?
Available in both Spotfire and Statistica, jittering is random noise added to the X and/or Y coordinates of points on a scatter plot. The purpose is purely to better visualize data density.
Example:
Assume you have measurements on fixed dimensions, like the number of loans disbursed at different amounts:
Above, the values on the Y-axis overlap heavily, reducing the viewers ability to distinguish density. By adding jittering (and transparency) in the Visualizatoin Properties, we can better see the density of data points below:
