  • What's New in Spotfire® 10.5

    Message added by Surbhi Khimesra,

This article is kept for reference but some of the links may be broken due to Spotfire systems being updated over the years, please post a question in our Forum or submit a support ticket if you need any assistance with an older Spotfire version that is still supported

TIBCO Spotfire® 10.5 adds new data wrangling, data access and administration features.

TIBCO Spotfire® 10.5 adds new data wrangling, data access and administration features. We continue to make it easier and shorten the time it takes to add, wrangle, visualize and gain insights from data. With row and column counts available in all steps of your data pipeline it's easier to see if, for example, a join has been configured correctly. This enables you to move on to your next activity more quickly. You can add data transformations directly from the data canvas wires. This makes it a bit more clear where the transformation is added. When data is loaded into Spotfire, you will experience that visualizations and recommendations automatically select more relevant aggregation methods when visualizing non-additive measures.

    Data Wrangling

Smarter recommendations with non-additive data heuristics

Previously, when you imported data containing non-additive measures, for example Temperature, these measures were simply classified as 'numbers'. You could manually change the default aggregation method for a column from the Data in analysis flyout, but it required an extra step.

Now, Spotfire automatically detects many non-additive categories and uses that knowledge for the initial state when recommending visualizations, when configuring newly created visualizations and in drag-and-drop heuristics.

This doesn't change what kind of aggregations or computations you can use in visualization but provides a smarter initial state the first time you place a column on a value axis.

The default aggregation method can now be different for different types of numeric columns, depending on heuristics. You can change to another preferred aggregation method, if desired.

Row and column count available in source view steps

The number of rows and columns are now available in the data canvas information tab, see the lower right corner of the Spotfire data canvas view.

Add data transformation from the data canvas wires

It's now possible to add data transformations directly using the plus sign in the graphical view of the data canvas. Previously, transformations could only be added in the data canvas by first clicking the data source or add columns/rows node in the graphical view and then go to the bottom panel to add transformations between specific step groups on the node.

Transformations added using the plus sign will end up as the last step on the node to the left of the plus sign. You can of course still add transformations between existing step groups, if desired.

Copy data source information from the data canvas

The Information pane in the data canvas holds detailed information about your data sources. You can now copy this information to the clipboard and use it, for example, when documenting your analysis files.

    Data Access

Cloudera CDH 6 Hive and Impala support

Spotfire's connectors for Cloudera Hive and Cloudera Impala now support Cloudera CDH 6 in all clients for on-premises and in TIBCO Cloud Spotfire Analyst.

    Administration

Azure SQL Database supported as Spotfire Server DB

Azure SQL Database is supported as Spotfire Server database.

Azure SQL Database is a fully managed relational database service for MySQL in Azure.

Setup Spotfire Node Manager to run as a non-administrator account

As of Spotfire 10.3.1 it is possible to configure the Spotfire Windows node manager to run as an account that is not a local administrator. The solution works by running a PowerShell script as a local Windows administrator, which gives a non-administrator Windows account the necessary privileges to run the Node Manager and its services. See this community article for access to the script and instructions for how to use it.
